Grml 2025.05

This version includes various new packages pulled from the upcoming release of Debian 13, including Linux kernel 6.12.27: "We are proud to announce our new stable release, version 2025.05, code-named 'Nudlaug'. This Grml release brings you fresh software packages from Debian 'Trixie', enhanced hardware support and it addresses known bugs from previous releases. Like in the previous release, 2024.12, live ISO images are provided for 64-bit x86 (amd64) and 64-bit ARM CPUs (arm64). Important changes: this release is based on Debian 'Trixie' as of May 2025; uploaded to Debian - grml-hwinfo, grml-keyring + grml-paste are available starting with Debian 'Trixie'; we use a new signing key for the deb.grml.org repositories; the grml-live build system no longer uses FAI underneath and grml-policyrcd is gone; booting with boot option 'ssh=...' on grml-full automatically announces the SSH service with Avahi (discover it via avahi-browse -d local _ssh._tcp --resolve -t)."

Emmabuntüs is a lightweight, Debian-based distribution. The project's latest update introduces a series of key package updates as well as a German translation of the handbook. The release announcement reports: "The Emmabuntüs Collective is pleased to announce the release on March 24, 2025, of the update of its distribution, Emmabuntüs Debian Edition 5 1.04 (32-bit and 64-bit), based on Debian 12.10 'Bookworm' and the XFCE and LXQt desktop environments. This new version of our distribution mainly concerns updates to the software included in it following the release of Debian 12.10, with the update of the excellent Debian beginner’s handbook which now includes a German version included in our distribution, as well as the addition as standard of the Debian reference manuals included in it for the following languages: English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Japanese. Proxmox 8.3 "Virtual Environment"

The Proxmox Virtual Environment (VE) distribution is is a Debian-based, open-source virtualisation platform for running virtual appliances and virtual machines. The project's latest release, Proxmox 8.3 Virtual Environment, improves its software-defined networking while also updating its kernel and ZFS packages. "This version is based on Debian 12.8 (Bookworm), but uses the Linux kernel 6.8.12 as stable default and allows for opt-in use of kernel 6.11. The software includes updates to the latest versions of leading open-source technologies for virtual environments like QEMU 9.0.2, LXC 6.0.0 , and ZFS 2.2.6 (with compatibility patches for Kernel 6.11). Alignment of the Software-Defined Networking (SDN) stack with the firewall: The SDN technology allows users to create virtual zones and networks (VNets), enabling them to effectively manage and control complex networking configurations and multitenancy setups via the web interface of Proxmox VE. The SDN stack is now more closely integrated with the firewall, with the ability to automatically generate IP sets for VNets and virtual guests managed by the IP address management plugin. Referencing IP sets in the firewall rules simplifies their creation and maintenance."

The Amnesic Incognito Live System (Tails) is a Debian-based live DVD/USB with the goal of providing complete Internet anonymity for the user. The project has published an update for its 6.x series which fixes a serious security vulnerability. "The vulnerabilities described below were identified during an external security audit by Radically Open Security and disclosed responsibly to our team. We are not aware of these attacks being used against Tails users until now. These vulnerabilities can only be exploited by a powerful attacker who has already exploited another vulnerability to take control of an application in Tails. If you want to be extra careful and used Tails a lot since January 9 without upgrading, we recommend that you do a manual upgrade instead of an automatic upgrade. Prevent an attacker from installing malicious software permanently. In Tails 6.10 or earlier, an attacker who has already taken control of an application in Tails could then exploit a vulnerability in Tails Upgrader to install a malicious upgrade and permanently take control of your Tails. Doing a manual upgrade would erase such malicious software."
