3CX Phone System is a specialist, Debian-based Linux distribution designed to run a complete unified communications platform. The 3CX client, included in the distribution, can also be installed separately on most hardware as well as the cloud. It provides a complete open standards-based IP PBX and phone system that works with popular SIP trunks and IP phones. It will automatically configure all supported peripherals and it also comes with clients for Windows, OS X, iOS and Android. The ISO image includes a free license for the 3CX PBX edition. The ISO image contains the standard Debian installer which installs a minimal system with the nginx web server, PostgreSQL database, iptables firewall and Secure Shell.

The 4MLinux distribution - which focuses on server, multimedia, system rescue, and games - has published a new stable version: 4MLinux 43.0. The new release adds a few new media and game packages and provides additional web browsers as optional add-ons. The release announcement lists the key changes: "The status of the 4MLinux 43.0 series has been changed to STABLE. Edit your documents with LibreOffice 7.5.5 and GNOME Office (AbiWord 3.0.5, GIMP 2.10.34, Gnumeric 1.12.55), surf the Internet with Firefox 115.0.2 and Chrome 115.0.5790.110, send emails via Thunderbird 115.0.1, enjoy your music collection with Audacious 4.3.1, watch your favorite videos with VLC 3.0.18 and SMPlayer 23.6.0, play games powered by Mesa 23.1.1 and Wine 8.12. You can also setup the 4MLinux LAMP Server (Linux 6.1.33, Apache 2.4.57, MariaDB 10.6.14, PHP 5.6.40, PHP 7.4.33, and PHP 8.1.19.). Perl 5.36.0, Python 2.7.18, Python 3.11.3, and Ruby 3.1.4 are also available. As always, the new major release has some new features. SoundFonts (for FluidSynth) and mtPaint (raster graphics editor) have been added. A few Java-based games (Flappy Bird, Karoshi, Micropolis, and Zuma) as well as a set proprietary web browsers (Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Opera) are now available as downloadable extensions."

The new release includes a number of improvements to the login screen, Flatpak packages can now be included as Featured items in the software centre, and the layout of the Pix application has been overhauled. "Slick Greeter, which is in charge of the login screen, was given support for multiple keyboard layouts. The indicator located on the top-right corner of the screen opens a menu which lets you switch between layouts. System layouts defined in /etc/default/keyboard are listed first for easy access. Below that a sub-menu lists all supported layouts. Touchpad support was also improved. Tap-to-click is detected and enabled automatically in the login screen. The layout used for Onboard, the on-screen keyboard is configurable. The keyboard navigation was improved. The arrow keys can be used to edit the password which is being typed. A revealer icon appears when the password is clicked or edited. This revealer can be used to toggle the visibility of the password."
