Parrot (formerly Parrot Security OS) is a Debian-based, security-oriented distribution featuring a collection of utilities designed for penetration testing, computer forensics, reverse engineering, hacking, privacy, anonymity and cryptography. The project's latest version, Parrot 5.0, introduces some new container options and drops the KDE Plasma and Xfce editions. "Parrot's main focus on the latest release was on making the system extremely stable and flexible. The system now follows a Long Term Support release model, but provides the latest version of all its tools via extensive backporting, and is never out of date. Parrot 5.0 was designed with cloud and customizability in mind, and provides several container options to leverage powerful orchestration tools during complex pentest scenarios. The Parrot offering has been simplified, and a new Architect edition has been introduced to allow maximum customizability of the system. Parrot 5.0 keeps the former Home and Security editions, and introduces a new special HTB edition inspired by the popular PwnBox by HackTheBox. The KDE and Xfce alternatives are no longer available."

The Ubuntu community has published a new development release, leading into the distribution s 22.04 long-term support LTS scheduled for April. Along with the flagship Ubuntu Server distribution its many official community editions have also released beta snapshots. Perhaps the most documented community edition is Ubuntu MATE which offers pages of updates and screenshots of the beta. The release announcement mentions some important changes Ubuntu MATE, like its lead developer, was starting to get get a bit large around the mid section. During the development of 22.04, the image got to 4.1GB. So, we put Ubuntu MATE on a strict diet. We ve removed the proprietary NVIDIA drivers from the local apt pool....

SparkyLinux is a Debian-based distribution with a wide range of editions. The project's semi-rolling branch has published a new snapshot, SparkyLinux 2022.03. The new release offers a number of desktop software upgrades and changes the way repositories are signed. The release announcement reports: "Sparky 2022.03 of the (semi-)rolling line is out, which is based on Debian testing Bookworm. The new ISO images provide: all packages upgraded as of March 6, 2022; Linux kernel 5.16.11 (5.16.12 and 5.17-rc7 in Sparky unstable repos); Calamares 3.2.53; Firefox 96.0.3 (firefox-sparky 98.0 and firefox-esr-sparky 91.7.0esr (Mozilla builds) available in Sparky repos); Thunderbird 91.6.1; LibreOffice 7.3.1 RC1; added a dock-like vala-panel with custom config which provides favorite apps launcher on the left side of your desktop (via 'sparky-launcher' package); small improvements. Sparky changed a way of signig its repos, the latest update of 'sparky-apt' and 'sparky-apt-unstable' packages fixes it."
