Parrot 6.2

Parrot (formerly Parrot Security OS) is a Debian-based, security-oriented distribution featuring a collection of utilities designed for penetration testing, computer forensics, reverse engineering, hacking, privacy, anonymity and cryptography. The project's latest release, version 6.2, introduces several package upgrades and a new tool called Rocket. "Parrot team is happy to introduce you to Rocket, a launcher written entirely in Python using PyQt6 for the GUI, to launch Docker containers, specifically some security tools in our repository on Docker Hub (and others, from other repositories). ​​​​​​​This application runs on ParrotOS, but is also compatible with other distributions, and can also run on Windows and MacOS. It only requires the installation of docker.io to interface with Docker and allow the user to manage containers. Instead of typing and downloading a specific tool, through Rocket you can select a tool from the list, and then downloading the Docker image and launching the container is taken care of by the application."

AlmaLinux OS 9.5 Beta

AlmaLinux OS is an open-source, community-driven project that is built from the source code of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. The project has published a new beta snapshot of the 9.x series. The release announcement reports: "AlmaLinux 9.5 Beta aims to improve performance, development tooling, and security. Updated module streams offer better support for web applications. New versions of compilers provide access to the latest features and optimizations that improve performance and enable better code generation. The release also introduces improvements to system performance monitoring, visualization, and system performance data collecting. Security updates are directed at strengthening cryptography, while SELinux policies enforce stricter access controls. Additionally, crypto-policies offer stronger encryption, improving the overall security of the system."

4MLinux 46.0

4MLinux is a small Linux distribution with four areas of focus: system maintenance, multimedia, server, and games. The project's latest release is version 46.0 which no longer features a stand-alone Server edition. "As always, the new major release has some new features. The 4MLinux Server is now available out of the box (meaning that there is no separate 4MServer for download). Support for Windows Enhanced Metafiles (EMF images) as well as raw files from digital cameras (CRW/CR2, NEF, RAF, DNG images) has been added. Support for old audio formats (originating from Amiga, Commodore and the like) has been greatly improved. New applications: DVDAuthor (set of DVD authoring tools), qv4l2 (Qt-based application for testing V4L devices), VCDImager (set of VCD/SVCD authoring tools). Classic GNU Go game has been added to the 4MLinux GamePack package (downloadable extension). And finally, this is the first release that includes GTK version 4."

Solus-Plasma-Release-2024-10-14

The project has published a new snapshot, Solus 4.6, which makes changes to the multimedia applications and includes a merged /usr directory. "All our editions feature: Firefox 131.0.3, LibreOffice 24.2.5.2, Thunderbird 128.3.1. For audio and video multimedia playback, we offer software out-of-the-box that caters specifically to our desired experience for each edition. Budgie and GNOME editions ship with Rhythmbox for audio playback, with the latest release of the Alternate Toolbar extension to provide a more modern user experience. Budgie and GNOME ship with Celluloid for video playback. Xfce ships with Parole for multimedia playback. Plasma ships with Elisa for audio playback and Haruna for video playback. Over the summer, the Solus team has been tackling the Usr-Merge conundrum; read Evan’s excellent blog post for the full story. We have now reached the end of Stage 3 on our rollout plan: All users with an updated system now have a Usr-Merge’d system. Any users that create a fresh installation with today’s ISOs will also have a merged system."

"Here are the highlights of what's changed since the release of Ubuntu MATE 24.04: ships stable MATE Desktop 1.26.2 with a handful of bug fixes; switched back to Slick Greeter (replacing Arctica Greeter) due to a race condition in the boot process which results the display manager failing to initialise; returning to Slick Greeter reintroduces the ability to easily configure the login screen via a graphical application, something users have been requesting be re-instated; Ubuntu MATE 24.10 ISO image is now 3.3GB, down from 4.1GB in the 24.04 LTS release - this is thanks to some fixes in the installer that no longer require as many packages in the live-seed; accompanying MATE Desktop 1.26.2 and Linux 6.11 are Firefox 131, Celluloid 0.27, Evolution 3.54, LibreOffice 24.8.2."
