The new version represents the accumulation of all software updates since the release of Mageia 6 some 15 months ago: "It is with great pleasure that we announce the release of Mageia 6.1. SparkyLinux is a lightweight, fast and simple Linux distribution based on Debian. The project's latest release, SparkyLinux 5.5 "Rolling", is based on Debian's Testing branch. The new version includes mostly minor package updates, and makes the leap from using GCC 7 to GCC 8 for the default compiler. "There are new live/install ISO images of SparkyLinux 5.5 Nibiru available to download. Sparky 5 follows a rolling release model and is based on Debian testing Buster. Changes: system updated from Debian Testing repos as of September 17, 2018; Linux kernel 4.18.6 (4.18.8- & 4.19-rc4-sparky are available at Sparky unstable repos); the Calamares installer updated up to version 3.2.1; Thunar daemon is deactivated in the MinimalGUI Live (Openbox), due to problem of automounting new partitions created by Calamares; GCC 7 compiler has been removed, the system uses GCC 8 as default; removed packages: libpam-gnome-keyring, vim, imagemagick, systemd-ui, sparky-gexec, xterm (Openbox); also removed from LXQt media: lxtask, leafpad, notepqdqq."

Nitrux is a desktop-oriented Linux distribution based on Ubuntu, with an innovative desktop called "Nomad". Nomad attempts to extends KDE's Plasma with a special blend of aesthetics and functionality. The distribution's developers have addressed many of the issues reported in early reviews and believe it is now a much more mature, stable and polished product. The latest version is Nitrux 1.0.15, released late last week: "We are pleased to announce the launch of Nitrux 1.0.15. "Like previous LTS series', 16.04.5 includes hardware enablement stacks for use on newer hardware. This support is offered on all architectures except for 32-bit PowerPC, and is installed by default when using one of the desktop images. Ubuntu Server defaults to installing the GA kernel, however you may select the HWE kernel from the installer bootloader. As usual, this point release includes many updates, and updated installation media has been provided so that fewer updates will need to be downloaded after installation. These include security updates and corrections for other high-impact bugs, with a focus on maintaining stability and compatibility with Ubuntu 16.04 LTS."
