The NetBSD team have announced a new release of the project's highly portable operating system. The new version, NetBSD 8.2, provides minor updates and fixes to the project's 8.x series. "The third release in the NetBSD-8 is now available. This release includes all the security fixes in NetBSD-8 up until this point, and other fixes deemed important for stability. Some highlights include: x86: fixed regression in booting old CPUs. x86: Hyper-V Gen.2 VM framebuffer support. httpd(8): fixed various security issues. ixg(4): various fixes / improvements. x86 efiboot: add tftp support, fix issues on machines with many memory segments, improve graphics mode logic to work on more machines. Various kernel memory info leaks fixes. Update expat to 2.2.8. Fix ryzen USB issues and support xHCI version 3.10. Accept root device specification as NAME=label...."

FuryBSD, a desktop-oriented operating system featuring the Xfce and KDE Plasma desktops, has been updated to version 12.1. The ISO images were actually released to SourceForge on March 8, but the release announcement was only published on the project's website today: "New FuryBSD 12.1 images are available for Xfce and KDE. This new release is now based on FreeBSD 12.1 with the latest FreeBSD quarterly packages. This brings Xfce up to 4.14, and KDE up to 5.17. In addition to updates, these new ISO images mostly address community bugs, community enhancement requests and community pull requests. Changelog: clean-up leftover union dir after install to disk; make sure furybsd-xorg-tool installs the right version for nvidia-driver-390; add nvidia-driver (latest) category to fury-xorg-tool; restore beastie menu and default timeout on live media; add updating documentation; update packages on ISO images to FreeBSD quarterly branch branches/2020Q1; make root mount read write on live image; update ISO image to 12.1 (latest FreeBSD 12.1-p2)...."

The 12.x series of FreeBSD is expected to receive support through to June 2024. The release announcement states: "The FreeBSD Release Engineering team is pleased to announce the availability of FreeBSD 12.1-RELEASE. This is the second release of the stable/12 branch. Some of the highlights: BearSSL has been imported to the base system; yhe clang, llvm, lld, lldb, compiler-rt utilities and libc++ have been updated to version 8.0.1; OpenSSL has been updated to version 1.1.1d. The FreeBSD Project dedicates the FreeBSD 12.1-RELEASE to the memory of Kurt Lidl. FreeBSD 12.1-RELEASE is now available for the amd64, i386, powerpc, powerpc64, powerpcspe, sparc64, armv6, armv7 and aarch64 architectures."
