"The Ubuntu Studio team is pleased to announce the release of Ubuntu Studio 24.04 LTS, code-named 'Noble Numbat'. This marks Ubuntu Studio's 34th release. This release is a long-term support release and as such, it is supported for 3 years (36 months, until April 2027). In cooperation with the Ubuntu Desktop team, we have an all-new desktop installer. This installer uses the underlying code of the Ubuntu Server installer ('Subiquity') which has been in use for years, with a frontend coded in 'Flutter'. Be on the lookout for a special easter egg when the graphical environment for the installer first starts. For those of you who have been long-time users of Ubuntu Studio since our early days (even before Xfce), you will notice exactly what it is. Now for the big one: PipeWire is now mature and this release contains PipeWire 1.0. With PipeWire 1.0 comes the stability and compatibility you would expect from multimedia audio."

We remain proud of OpenBSD's record of more than twenty years with only two remote holes in the default install. As in our previous releases, 7.5 provides significant improvements, including new features, in nearly all areas of the system: added bt(5) and btrace(8) support for binary modulo operator; added a TIMEOUT_MPSAFE flag to timeout(9); added IBM encoded version of the "Spleen 8x16" font, usable as console font; cleanup and machine-independent refactoring of three context switch paths outside of mi_switch(): when a process forks and the new proc needs to be scheduled by proc_trampoline, cpu_hatch: when booting APs, and sched_exit: when a proc exits; made vscsi(4) 'vscsi_filtops' mpsafe and extended the 'sc_state_mtx' mutex(9) to protect 'sc_klist' knotes list; made out-of-swap checking more robust, preventing potential deadlocks...."

The portable NetBSD operating system has reached a new milestone with the release of NetBSD 10.0. The new version introduces a number of performance and security improvements: "Benchmarks of NetBSD 10 show huge performance and scalability gains over NetBSD 9.x, especially on multiprocessor and multicore systems, for compute and filesystem-bound applications. Areas of improvement included: switched the kernel's file path lookup cache to use faster per-directory red-black trees; improved scheduler performance, including the ability to more appropriately spread load on a mixture of slow and fast cores (e.g. big.LITTLE Arm CPUs); various optimizations for the machine-independent virtual memory system; improved tracking of clean/dirty pages, speeding up fsync(2) on large files by orders of magnitude; improved parallelization - rewritten page allocator with awareness of CPU topology, replaced global counters with per-CPU counters, and reduced lock contention; improved the performance of the select(2) and poll(2) system calls; improved the performance of tmpfs; implemented lazy update of atime/mtime; various optimizations of architecture-dependent x86 and AArch64 code, vastly improved network and I/O throughput on aarch64...."
